Once upon a Christmastime

Once upon a Christmastime

There was a little girl
Shy as could be
With bouncy blond curls.
Her head always in the clouds
Reading stories of fantasy.

With her eyes she walked
The pages of the book
Could she be a female Captain hook?

A Mother to love
Always there to encourage
A warm hug when needed
A shoulder to cry on.
Music and laughter
 All through the house.
A Mother's smile
Turned into a song.
Whistling  a tune
As she carried on.

Knowing that one day
This little girl would become

Me.

                                                                       Mom and  I
                                                                     (around 1957)

Sisters Acrylic on Canvas

Hi There,

It has finally cooled down here.. And I mean cooled down.. Last night low was 32 degrees... Jasper and Zoe make great bed warmers... Jasper always lays against my back, Zoe down by my feet. She will move around during the night, sometimes she lays her head across my neck..

Picked up my acrylics and painted a portrait on canvas this past week.  I used grey tones only. The first one is actually the same painting, but in progress.. I don't know how I managed to get so far off...  I am glad that I took a photo in progress, because now I have sister's ..   I actually prefer the first one.   What do you think?

In progress

Finished

Thank you so much for wandering over... Wishing you all a beautiful weekend.
Blessings,
Penny

Fred and Ethel

Hello dear friends... I am afraid I missed so many great Halloween posts, but I was bit by the flu bug.
I am feeling better today and thought I would share a few photos of where Fred and Ethel live.
The back yard is visible from my kitchen window.. I love to watch them in the morning as I have my coffee..
I cannot remember the botanical name for this bush, but the common name is potato bush..   Beautiful purple flowers..... This is not only their home, it also serves as their meals.. they love the flowers, and Fred will stand on his back two feet and snap a branch off and completely devour it... I does not seem to hurt the bush, so I say, eat hearty!

Can you see them back there to the left of the bush?  At least now, since I fenced off the grassed area

for Jasper and Zoe,  the bun buns stay off the grass

Ethel is in the foreground, Fred in the back.. He is quite large.

Wishing you all a beautiful November... See you soon.

The Princess and the Mouse Pencil sketch

Today I was gazing out the kitchen window while doing dishes... What popped into my head? This image below.. I have no idea why... I was watching the rabbits play, not a mouse in sight.
So your guess is as good as mine... But I must say it was  enjoyable sketching this.
I hope you enjoy.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Please meet Mittens and Meg

Hello dear friends...  I pulled Mittens out of  the hat box and finished her up.. She had asked for a friend, how could I refuse, so I needle felted her a wee mouse that measures 1 1/2".  Mittens stands 4 1/2 " tall.  Needle felted in beautiful wool fibers..  I painted her glass bead eyes, with the help of my magnifier..  She is available on Ebay..  I hope you enjoyed meeting her and her wee friend.

What a life

Really!  This is how Jasper spends his time...  Well, when he is not reminding me of lunch time by kicking the trash can... What can I say, he just makes laugh...  Once in while I will find him with his legs straight up in the air. Now that is funny!

What have I been doing?  Drawing, painting, reading, writing and a not so much needle felting..  I started a felted cat named Mittens... Lost interest and put her away for the moment... When it is time I will bring her out and finish..

It is heating up again, over 100 today.. I am so happy I went out yesterday to tend the roses... Won't venture out today...  Wishing you all a beautiful Sunday.

Jasper ( the King)  and I  thank you for visiting!

Granny's Attic in Temecula

Hello dear friends,
Have been a little under the weather, but am feeling better each day.
Thank you all so much for taking time to visit. The weather here has been just horrid.  Yesterday it hit 112 in the shade... As if water restrictions were not enough, this intense heat has really done a number on my roses... Don't get me wrong, we need water restrictions with the drought,  I just hope they make it through the summer.  They give me such joy.

Thought I would share  a couple of photos I took on my visit to Granny's Attic a last month. It is located behind  front street, in Temecula.. It is much larger inside, than it appears to be from the outside..  Very isle has a street name.  I am thinking this is if you get lost... haaa..  There were so many beautiful antiques, but these two items show below,  I would have loved to have..

I am not sure, but I am thinking  this stove may be a reproduction.. what do you think?

I love this old singer, and the cabinet!  They had about four different models throughout the shop.
This was my favorite.  I should have taken a close up of the machine itself.

Ok.  Not an antique, but had to take a photo.  This is what Miss B always says to me...  She was with me this day, along with her dear friend... She yelled,  NANA, look at this!

Have a peaceful Sunday....  Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead

blessings,
Penny

Miette on stage at the Ballet

Miette has always wanted to dance on stage..  Wearing her pale pink tutu, pink toe shoes and must not forget the white wings.. She tends to be a little top heavy due to her trunk.. So I suggested she wear wings to balance herself..  She is a sweet little elephant,  we would not want her to fall during her performance..
She measures 4 inches tall to the tip of her wings.. I hope you enjoyed.
She is currently available on ebay.
Thank you so much for watching her perform.

See you soon
blessings,
Penny

Summer roses

I have been waiting and waiting for the roses to come into full bloom... I believe this year this will not happen..  So I thought I would share a few blooms with you...  We need rain so badly, and with the water restrictions it is a challenge.. The bushes look so sad, leaves are sparse, and only about 1/4 of what I usually see this time of year...  I was out this morning dead heading the roses and had to come in... By 9am it was over 90, so this is going to be another hot one.

The rose at the top is my Mother of Pearl.  It is a pink rose, but now has changed colors.  Then there is my favorite English rose...  Ingenious Mr. Fairchild.. Last photo.

Wishing you all a beautiful week..  Thank you all so much for your visits and kind words this month.
blessings,
Penny
