Once upon a Christmastime

Once upon a Christmastime

There was a little girl
Shy as could be
With bouncy blond curls.
Her head always in the clouds
Reading stories of fantasy.

With her eyes she walked
The pages of the book
Could she be a female Captain hook?

A Mother to love
Always there to encourage
A warm hug when needed
A shoulder to cry on.
Music and laughter
 All through the house.
A Mother's smile
Turned into a song.
Whistling  a tune
As she carried on.

Knowing that one day
This little girl would become

Me.

                                                                       Mom and  I
                                                                     (around 1957)

  5. Oh Penny,

Your poem, YOUR POEM is sensational. The last line, "ME" is strikingly poignant and then, your PHOTO. Do you know that I have a similar photo of me and my parents? I have to dig that up....your mum was just GORGEOUS and glowed from within and sparkled into a woman of great beauty. Look at YOU PENNY! Those clear blue eyes just beaming with hope. Lovely friend, how I love you. Thank YOU for all the laughter and encouragement through the years, and though I no longer blog, I do come back here every time because you have changed my life.

Aren't cha also glad about having Jeri Landers provide that farmyard fantasy? How I love you all.

    HUGS TO YOU!

  7. Hi Penny,
It's so wonderful looking back you as a little girl , your Mother glamorous in the late 50's and a tree filled with tinsel....I kind of miss those days when things were much slower, and we so appreciated the goodness, Right?

Your poem is delightful....child's play with words that take you to a place imaginatively.

I hope to see some new designs from you this coming year, ones encouraged from all the beauty you have gathered and stored away.

I wrote a poem in the post before this latest, I so enjoyed showing a part of that side of me in my post that I tend to steer away from.
I am having a rushed stressed year, I am late on everything, my step father fell and broke it hip and leg, and surgery led him to hip replacement and a rod down his leg 2 weeks ago, so my days have been filled with preparation of all that I have been doing for him, and arranging his home for his mobility.

I am looking forward to a peaceful Noël and a new year an all it brings, I have also been keeping my nights busy creating new pieces.

I will look forward my dear to all the beauty we see from you this 2016

    Lots of love,
    Merry Christmas my dear

    Xx
    Dore

  8. Dear Penny,
As I read your poem I was feeling a connection to your spirit and there it was the photo of you and your Mom. Both of you in beautiful Christmas dresses with warm big smiles and sparkly eyes. I love your poem and I love you.

I keep a photo out year round of a Christmas tree in the 50's, my Brother Mike (no longer on planet earth) me and our dog sitting on the floor with presents under our Christmas tree that looks like yours. Draped in tinsel that with the slightest movement would sparkle and sway. The precious memories of a more innocent time.
Wishing you a beautiful Christmas with your daughters and fur kids, may 2016 bless your family with love and health.
    Sending love,
    Vera

  14. Oh, I forgot to mention that photograph, Look at your mothers marvelous smile! And her dress! And YOUR dress! Look at all the tinsel on the tree! I remember wanting to just COVER the tree with tinsel, because there was never enough of it Every year we had to re-use it as it got more and more krinkly and useless.
