Dear Mom 1943

Missing my dear mom, thought I would share a few photos from this old scrapbook below, belonged to my mom..  She created it  while in the Navy..

But first..... I would like you to meet my mom's Dad.. Joseph, a sweet Frenchman.
Don't you just want to give him a hug.  He is in the heaven with my grandmother,  my mom and dad.

Mom was a WAVE in the Navy. Attended the .US Naval training school was Bronx, NY. She worked in the hospital in Oakland, CA,   she was also in New York,  San Diego.. Corpus Christi, TX..   These are just a few photos from the book.. How wonderful that she managed to log and photograph this keepsake...

  3. For me it was special to walk along and for seeing these old photos with you, Penny, because it made me think of my own parents (they both have passed away many years ago). Your Mom was a very beautiful woman, especially on the last photo when she is laughing, it must be so special for you to look at these old pictures....
It's nice to read that Japer is back to his perky self :)!
Wishing you a nice Sunday. Blessings to you.

  5. PENNY! Good morning! I am pleasantly surprised and very moved by this wonderful trip through your history my dear friend! OK, your "GRAND-PÈRE was French? OMG, from what region of France? He sure looks français, for sure! And your dear mother......she was a beauty, Penny - no wonder you are a knock-out of a woman! I can see the eyes....blue? You too have a wealth of photos; I too have many that I really need to get into a better box so that mold does not destroy them. Maybe I can even use some of them in my book.

She was gorgeous. I also remember a photo you shared of both your parents - so young, so tall, so slender. Love to you my very important friend, and I wish you a happy Sunday. And that bear? His name is brewing in the mix, and I know it will be perfect!

    Much love!

  13. Penny, what a dazzlingly beautiful woman. She had a smile that could light up the world -- maybe even win a war. Your photos are real treasures and I'm so glad they have survived the years. The song -- perfect. I played a different version of that song, which I love, at my dad's memorial. It may be one of the most poignant i know.

This period so touches my heart. Seeing your photos not only makes it more personal but also emphasizes the lesser-told story of the women who did their part. What a wonderful way to start the day. (And glad Jasper is on the mend! Thanks for your visits to the Gypsy.)
