When I finished my bear I was able to selected a name.. I thought it best to wait till he was completed, then he would tell me... So I said... Who are you? Henry is my name, he said with a smile...
I would like to thank everyone who suggested a name, they were all great, and a
special thank you to Debbie Nolan at View From Harmony Hills .. If you have not met Debbie, please drop in to meet her.. Debbie is a beautiful Watercolorist, and such a joy to know. Her paintings take my breath away.
He was Needle felted over a wire armature with a blend of coopworth and corriedale wool fibers. Colors are ~nut~ and Earth.
His core was firmly felted, then I applied a second coat, tiny pieces at a time, needle felted into his core.. To finish I scissor sculpted his second coat.
The armature in his arms and legs goes only about half way down... He may still be positioned gently bending at the joints.
He is 8" tall seated...
Henry has hand painted glass eyes. His claws... Tried something new this time... I used paper clay to sculpt the claws, applied a hardener, then painted with values of greys for a modeled look and sealed..
Henry is wearing a hand sculpted tag with my initials..
He is available on Ebay

Thank you so much for your visit. I hope you enjoyed meeting Henry.
Oh My Gosh, Henry, I love your paws and footsies with such claws! Ouch, you could do some serious damage with claws like that, but i know you are a gentle bear and only use them for helping to dig holes in the garden at planting time...right?? Great job, Penny, I don't think I would attempt claws, it seems quite difficult to me. He is a sweetie!
ReplyDeleteJeri, Thank you so much! Yes, the claws are a lot of work, and I don't make them for all my bears. Very time consuming.

Oh gosh, you are unbelievable. The first woman in the world to figure out how to shape CUTE, how to package CUTENESS....
The birds in the background are the perfect setting to place me in; I feel I am back in the woods on a warm spring day, then suddenly I SEE A BEAR! HENRY THE HONEY BEAR! His perfect eyes are open wide as he sees and is startled by TEA RAT, the explorer, with his green boots and hunting rifle! But Henry should not fear, for Tea Rat does not shoot anything; he only carries his rifle for looks....teeeeeheeee
HENRY'S PAWS ARE PERFECT, PENNY! Well done on the claws, for they are a proper set of claws for a big honey bear like him! His wool is so beautiful, and the coloring really is wonderful. Thank you for this feel of spring - all the bears in my neck of the woods are still hibernating in this ice world of mine, but soon they will come out to play with Henry. I LOVE HIM!!!
Much love and admiration to you dear, dear Penny!!!!
You sweet thing you... Merci, dear friend... You always lift my heart with your kind words..

Penny, thank you so much for your note. Yesterday was tiring - always the second day after a tumble is hard, and I had to do my stint as dental hygienist, so I was exhausted, but I am feeling better today :)

Penny, that's so special that you know the art of Elvgren. I wasn't familiar with it until I started to look at some of the paintings, and I really liked them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day! Enjoy this beautiful day of love.
