The 80's Watercolor

Another watercolor from my portfolio from the 80's... During that period of time I was a member of the Artist Guild in Torrance, CA... I had painted a series of ~Hat Ladies~.. I remember when I took them to enter in the show the women asked me what medium.. I said watercolor, she said no they are not.
In fact they are, but I suppose I do not use watercolor in the tradition way at times... So after our long conversation she put them in as watercolor.. No ribbons that month, but some very interesting comments... I really would be interested in your opinion as to what medium it looks like to you.. Thank you so much for wandering over..
Blessings,
Penny

  1. Hi Penny girl!
First of all love the music have all the enya cd's and for your 80's girl I think I looked like this style back then :)
Your touch reminds me of the artist that did those 70's prints correct me if I am a bit off tract but were they called like "Sara Moon" you know those hippy free spirited prints water faded in such pale and smoky pale half there bodies were cut off in the prints and left to your imagination to what else they were wearing or what was going on. I had one and my sister started collecting them foe her townhouse so I gave her mine, such a time living through that artist.

Beautiful art work you create over here.
Thank you sweetest of friends making a visit to then encourage my passion and way of life.
see you soon over at Anitas in Paris day 8

  2. Hi Dore
Well you just made my day... To even be in the same sentence as the name Sara Moon... I am humbled and truly honored.. I believe the artist that launched the name Sara Moon was a Persian artist by the name of Bijan who lives in Germany. Amazing artist..
I am so happy you enjoyed my painting.. Oh!and thank you for calling me GIRL! I feel so young today. haa
    See you in Paris!
    Bisous!

  3. Yes, Penny dear, this is reminiscent of his work! Your lady is beautiful, and I would have guessed the medium is pencil...but I can see how you used the watercolor...very, very nice. It takes a lot of control with the brush, I believe, to get that effect with watercolors.
    Love her green eyes!
    Blessings, sweet friend,

  5. Hi Penny,
This lady is just beautiful!! Her eyes are hypnotic!! Your paintings have a style to them that is all your own.
To me it looks like your painting is done in Copic Markers. I don't know if you have ever heard of them, but I have some and the shades are so rich looking, and intense. There is a blending pen that tones them down but when used straight they are amazing...and look very similar...
Keep them coming...each one is a treat for my eyes to behold!!

  7. GOOD MORNING MY DEAREST ONE! Well to me, it is so beautiful, I don't care what medium it is. In fact, I wonder if keeping your audience WONDERING is part of the art? LOVELY, SO PERFECT is her complexion, eyes and lips, that the reality and SPIRIT of the piece is all that matters to ME. MEDIUM???? Love.

  8. Dear Irina
You are so kind.. I agree, it does look like pencil.. This was not really intentional you see.. It was in the 80's that I picked up watercolors.. I really was afraid to use them at first, so I was very careful with the use of water. So happy you enjoyed.
    Bisous! Penny
