I am not sure if this is a Rufous or Allen's Hummingbird, but it is so beautiful. Sis sent me a photo of one and I had to give it a try. Unlike any of the Hummingbirds I have seen in my area. Much rounder. I had no idea what it was until I did a little research, and still not sure, but it looks like the Allen
Below is my drawing. I used prismacolor colored pencils and a touch of white acrylic, on an ACEO card, very small. I hope you enjoy viewing.
I would like to thank everyone for the kind comments left on my last post. It is always so nice to see you there.
blessings,
Penny

Absolutely beautiful! I couldn't believe my own eyes when first in my life I saw a hummingbird. It was in an island near Panama City. In real life it is less than half the size of this picture. Too beautiful for words.

Dearest friend, good morning! First of all, yes, I've been watching the birds and they bring me more joy every year as I mature and appreciate the details in my own garden....and your hummingbird! I have only had the pleasure of seeing one in my yard but otherwise, I don't see them in my area. This is a wonderful, absolutely wonderful rendition of a type that I'd love to see. You are and always have been a fantastic artist my friend and I'm so happy to see you share your work! LOVE IT!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Penny, this is exquisite. Your color technique is fantastic and what a gorgeous bird. How lucky he comes to visit you. I opened it up larger and it's a real stunner -- fabulous detail.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! You are so good with pencils!
ReplyDeletePenny, your hummingbird drawing is so special in many ways. First of all, I love the orange you used in his feathers. I heard one time that orange is the happiest color, and I think it's true. He has such a sweet look about him too. It's such a wonderful sight when we see the hummingbird, and they really are precious birds, aren't they? You did a great job on the painting, Penny. I love everything about it.

ReplyDeletePenny now this is certainly my kind of painting...I adore it. You have such a wonderful touch with colored pencils. I have used them but never very happy with the outcome of my attempts. Yours is wonderful...captured the fluff as well as how they perch. We only seem to have the Rufous ones here and you know I love them so. I will keep watching the birds and know that you are too, sweet friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very nice painting, lovely bird. I like your colors here. I love listening to birds when they make noises, I get them often where I live.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is just beautiful...love it!

This is lovely. You have honored this bird beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting, dear friend. I appreciate your comments very much. I can't get over that hummingbird drawing, it's beautiful. Looks just like Summer. : )
ReplyDeleteHappy August, dear Penny.

I wanted to visit you again! Thank you for visiting me...Yes, the David Austin roses are amazing. I have a Hansa rosehip rose, I'm not sure if that's a DA rose or not. The roses repeat and smell SO GOOD! The hips are huge. I have had to water it this summer because we are so dry here.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you sweet friend. I hope you are doing more pencil art!
