( a rose is in front of her head) you have to look close... Little stinker. I love the bunnies, but I did not plant these for her, or her husband Fred!
I see she has found my ice plant... About that time
I put the camera down and went out to have a talk with her...
I put the camera down and went out to have a talk with her...
She took off like a bullet. She had nothing to say.
Poor little Flowering Cherry... I planted last March, and this is all it has grown...
I don't know if you noticed, but my roses are two bushes deep.
Climbers in the back growing up the posts.. Down in front are my English roses, that are now starting to bloom. My Mother of Pearl that I shared in the last post is now on it's second bloom.
So, I pulled out my pruners and sniped off the spent roses, so as you can see most are gone, and have been replaced with a mass of buds. The pink is my Ingenious Mr. Fairchild.. To the right of it is Winchester Cathedral. The scent is wonderful!I thought by now the climbers would have been taller.. The only one that has reached the top is the one on the far right..
The two photos below were before I put the seedlings in..
I had just marked the spots in a circle further out from the tree.
If I have learned nothing else through the years, I do know.... Where there is a will, there is a way..
I am going to plant white Alyssum around the base of the bird bath. Can you see the tiny stocks to the left of it? Ethel snipped of two stock on the other side .. I must get all my planting and moving done in the next month or so because of our blazing summer heat..
I an sure it is quite obvious that the purple and yellow flowers that are around the tree are not real.. I could not stand to have no color while waiting for the young plants and seedlings to come up.. I will take them out as soon as the flowers are larger and fill up some space
I hope you enjoyed viewing my humble little cottage.
Wishing you all a beautiful weekend.
Dear Penny I admire your perservance your tenacity your clever use of body and chair to move the birdbath. I love the idea of White Alyssum planted beneath ... But Penny I am still laughing looking at Ethel sitting there! Bunny gardening, hey she can be your helper. Maybe you can plant some carrots for Ethel and Fred!!!
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I am forcing cherry blossoms in our home.
xoxoxo,
Vera
Hi Penny I just love sweet Ethel. Even with her bunny antics she's incredibly cute!
ReplyDeleteJust emailed you photos.
xoxox,
Vera
Oh how very LOVELY everything looks!! Beautiful roses and flowers, and such a lovely lovely house!!!(with a perfect sky in the background)!! You have been busy creating that touch of beauty you have such a knack for :-) Well I do hope that Fred and Ethel will be more polite in the future!! :-)
ReplyDeleteBlessings and warmth xx oo Linnie
Ah, yesss, and there WAS a will :)) So beautiful, a little Penny-made landscape of magic :))
ReplyDeleteBlooming greetings from Méa :))
Dear Penny,
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing all that is going on in your beautiful garden.
You can do without the bunnies eating your precious plants. I have some white Alyssum growing in my window boxes.
As for your cherry tree - it is like my apple tree as I only had three apples off it.
Happy weekend dear friend
Hugs
Carolyn
PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWith my bad eyes, it took a while to spot her, but I finally yelled out, "I SEE ETHEL!" teeeee....it's very early in the morning, Ruben is sleeping and I'm sure he heard me! I SEE HER! Oh, Ethel, be a good girl! Don't eat mum's stocks!!!!!!
I am with you AND our dear Vera. When the back won't give in, then we use our wits and a chair, our thighs....whatever it takes to get the thing MOVED! Yes, dragging the object always works for me, and your results? FABULOUS. Penny, it is thrilling to see your charming and very beautiful white cottage decked out in those MUST HAVE rose climbers. Your addition of the birdbath out front, then with hopes of white at the base are good moves. Your home is a sweet space for dreams and BUNNY FUN!!!!!
Beloved friend, you made my Friday morning.
Be careful of your back with that birdbath! But good for you -- not letting a silly old heavy cement thing get you down!
ReplyDeleteI love the bunnies and count them every year (so far, only one has been spotted!) but I can imagine how frustrating they are in your garden! The roses are dazzling and your house looks so pretty in those photos from the front with that wonderful color. Oh, don't you just love spring!
Your roses are just lovely, Penny! We have Ethel's cousins in our garden. It will be much later before they make their appearance. Enjoy your lovely spring. ♥
ReplyDeletePenny, I loved seeing pictures of your charming house, and your rose bushes are getting so full already! I am starting to see a few roses in my garden, and it makes me smile. Your flower bed with the purple flowers looks very nice. You have a green thumb and are a wonderful gardener. Oh, that Ethel is being mischievous. Yes, if there's a will, there's a way. That's always been my motto too.
ReplyDeleteBlessing to you, Penny, on this first day of April.
love, ~Sheri
Hi Penny,
ReplyDeleteOh your home and roses are just so gorgeous!!! Everything is just so pristine!! Love the bunny!!
Have a wonderful weekend.
XOXO

I think I lost my comment! I'll try it again. Firstly, your home looks like a rose covered cottage, and is so charming. That little Ethel has the face of an angel and the habits of a hooligan, naughty girl! You've reminded me to buy some Stock seed, I love it. How old are your roses? They are so lush and I find that when I prune mine way down, they grow so much fuller as well. I totally understand the trials of moving BIG HEAVY THINGS by ones self. Rolling is always a good choice, as is using crowbars and leverage.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeri! My roses are 7 years old. I planted them in loving memory of my husband.
ReplyDeleteI have never cut them way back, just pruned a little here and there. I find it very difficult to get upset with Ethel, she so darn cute!
Dear Penny,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind visit - do hope that you have a relaxing weekend and not do too much heavy work. I know exactly what you are saying - we sometimes feel like wonder woman but then it hits you the next day.
Sending love and have a great weekend
Carolyn
ETHEL!!!!!!! Now, be a good bunny; don't eat all of mum's stock!!! teeeheeee
ReplyDeleteHELLO PENNY! Thank YOu for visiting my blog. Yes, how can we get chuffed with the bunsters when they nibble? It IS what they do, and one year, we offered carrots to them. They ate them up before you could say, JACK RABBIT!
Are the birdies loving your birdbath? They must! It's in the perfect spot. I hope you have another magical day; go on over to Nowhere real quick.....
haha @ Fred, and Ethel I loved that Penny. How are you? I hope you are wonderful. I have been absent for most of the past 6 weeks, but am planning to get my booty in gear! Your "humble cottage" as you describe it, is truly lovely, and your flowers give it a very inviting appearance! You are multi talented dear friend...I can't seem to grow much of anything for long! xoxoxo Christel
