WIP Angel relief ~ Fides~

~Fides ~
(Latin - faith)

 WIP Angel relief
She  has been a very slow but fulfilling process...  I have much rework to do and am only 1/4 of the way down..  As is with my past reliefs,  no molds or stencils are ever used.. Original design from my mind's eye... I usually do a sketch so I have a reference...  the background was created with mixed media, the relief work accomplished with paper clay, a few tools and my favorite tool, my fingers.
I love the feel of this clay...  I will add more WIP photos to this post as I go along.

Wishing all that celebrate Thanksgiving a joyful one.
I am blessed for so many things, most importantly my children, family and you my friends.
Thank you all for making this year a special one.
blessings,
Penny

Fridays work below (11-28)
Sculpting is finished.. Now for the layers of wash
First wash of acrylic.
I will do several light washes of earth tones.

  1. Oh Penny, this is absolutely beautiful. How special that the tool you used to make this was your fingers. I love angels so. There was a shop in my town that just selled angels, and I used to go to it all the time. It closed down many years ago, and I still remember browsing around the shop looking at all the angels and having peaceful feelings come over me.

I wanted to wish one of my sweetest and most favorite people in blog land a Happy Thanksgiving. You are my angel on earth, Penny.

    love,
    ~Sheri

  3. Oh Penny, I can't recall the other WIP you have shared on your past reliefs, but I have to say that this one is just marvelous! She is beautiful, and I love what you said about your favorite tools: YOUR FINGERS. We all here certainly have come to learn that you have magic running through your veins because everything you make has a quality to it that is not typical, you exude kindness and a innocence that cannot be duplicated. Each piece is perfectly YOU. FIDES is such a beauty...in French, it's FOI...what an appropriate name for one of our most needed skills to practice in this life. LOVE HER SO!

This is a great view of your hard work Penny, and to see her full view is really an indicator of your talents. The proportions all are perfect, and we can tell you have been doing this for a very long time. She is fabulous. I love all the lines of her wings - there is so much texture here and then the ROSES! Perfect. Just perfect.

  20. Hi Penny,
I had to drop by and comment on your note. I think one of the chins may have opened the door - he gets very upset with the cat when she walks by [though she ignores him] He may have been body-bouncing on the door???

  34. There's the little lamby! OOOOOH! This is the perfect message of faith and hope...with the lamb there! I was working with paper clay yesterday and wondered, "How does Penny get such a great look with this fabulous but sticky stuff?" I had fun making a silly thing for my theatre; I am quite proud of it but wow, was it a lot of work, and look at what you accomplish. GRAND as can be. LOVE!

  35. Oh Penny, your angel medium is breathtaking. I know you to so this kind of work it's been maybe 3 years now that I have seen you do anything in this direction.

I sometimes leave the unfinished feel to my work, giving it an old world feel.
Penny I so see more and more that you and I could sit and create our art that appears to be plasters and paper art.

My dear I want to thank you for taking the time to visit me, and your comments always add a specialness to my days.
On Dec, 5th ....Anita, Vera, Lin, Violet, and myself are listing another Christmas theatre production, I hope to see you visit us taking in our theatre productions. I will be using paper art mice, I am leaving all the mice Vera has purchased from you as part of her exclusive show. This is Vera's first Christmas with us and I wanted her to feel special with the mice she has purchased from you, so the little Hannah mouse we have from your beautiful creating will have to wait until next year. Or sooner.

    Will see you soon beautiful.
    Lots of love,

    Xx

  38. Penny, thank you for your visit and comments! I love the poured watercolors - they encourage me to seek the simplicity of a scene, which is good, as I tend to become involved with so much detail. I like the 2nd sketch, too, though it will be difficult to render without having Miss P. look like a wookie! I am looking forward to seeing your progress with this work!!!

  41. Penny, I finally made it here. This is such an interesting process. I've never used the medium of paper clay but I love that your fingers are your favored tools. They are very good tools too. I've not seen much relief work, but is it not a very ancient art-form? Greek and Roman? I love these angels Penny, they speak to me of who you are.

  42. Dear Penny - she is downright awesome. I think she is made even more wonderful by the way you use your fingers to do the work. I can hardly wait to see her completely finished. Definitely a beautiful angel made by one! God Bless!
