Oliver and an Angel in waiting

Hello dear friends...
Jasper is fully recovered from his surgery,  I from the flu... (well almost)...   Thank you all so much for your well wishes and most appreciated visits...

In October, while Jasper was recuperating and before I came down with the flu, this is what I created.
He will be traveling to his new home this week.

A dear collector asked me if I would consider Needle felted the likeness of her dear cat
"Oliver"..  I will admit I was a bit nervous... Cats, for me anyway, are a real challenge..   I had several bumps along the road, but pleased with the end result.   More importantly she was thrilled.. So this is a good thing yes?

I have also started on my wall relief for the Christmas season..  I am taking WIP photos, and hope to share them on my next post.  Where or where has the time gone...  I really cannot believe Thanksgiving is so close and then we will be ringing the bells for the Christmas Angels...

Oliver

Thank you so much for visiting.
Wishing you all a winter wonderland.
blessings,
Penny

  3. PENNY!

First of all, I am relieved to know you are recovering. The flu is tough to beat and takes longer than we would like. I am so happy dear friend! I woke up again thinking about you and hoping all was well.

OK, now for OLIVER! You got his toes....you got them! I think I figured out your "magic" here.....you never stop. You keep on until you get it right, and look at the results. I am pleased to hear Oliver is going straight to his new owner and she will be enchanted when she can hold him in the palm of her hand. I know I am happy when I "play" with one of my Penny originals!

Dear friend, have a relaxing day that will bring you closer to full recovery. And have fun with your angel relief!! XOXOX

  5. Well, Penny, I am a bit of a cat expert (though I can't draw or make one to save my soul!) but I have to say you nailed it! Oliver is quite wonderful indeed. Of course she is thrilled -- if she wasn't, I'd go to wherever he landed and bring him back!

Sending get well wishes -- though it sounds as though you are on your way. It's the time of year when we need to be at full tilt!

  12. Penny,
Continue regaining your strength the flu really knocks out a person's endurance! I once had a Gray and White, green eyed cat ... Seeing your magical little Oliver brought back a floodgate of fond memories. Penny Oliver is endearing and will be cherished. Amazing workmanship, magic comes out of those artist fingers.

  19. Dear Penny,
I'm so glad Jasper is recovering from surgery and you from the flu. These flu bugs can last for such a long time. Oliver is so wonderful. I can't believe how real he looks. His head nodding, his eyes, and his grey fur all make him the sweet little cat he is. He looks like he is saying "take me home." This is just darling.

Happy Thanksgiving, Penny. Take care of yourself. You mean a lot to me.

    love,
    ~Sheri

  21. Penny,
I smile every time I come visit and see little Oliver. So sweet and your background music very relaxing. Thanks for visiting me and leaving your kind comment. Looking forward to seeing your latest Angel relief. I've never made one and wonder - is it a process of adding to or removing?
Your talent always blows me away with it's beauty.

  24. Dear Penny, thank you so much for coming to see the OZ characters, and coming back to see Toto! He's really not what I could call an actual needle felted sculpture, he's more os a soft sculpture, I don't know how to needle felt, so I merely took a ball of wool, and started soft sculpturing it, till it looked somewhat dog like! :), I guess you could say my needle felting attempt was a happy accident, because he actually looks quite a bit like little Toto! I appreciate your visits SO much, you lift me up, that's the mark of a great friend, and dear soul! Much Love, Christel

  25. Hi Penny,
Thank you so much for the compliment on "Catawampus"! The pouring technique is not that hard - the hardest part is finding a striking image that would look good done in that manner. That's funny about the masking fluid odor. I don't paint in oils for the same reason - the odor. I've tried two brands - Winsor/Newton and Pebeo - of the two, Pebeo is a bit less pungent :)

  28. Dear, dear Penny!

Good evening my dearest friend. I have been busy all day long to try to whip up a post until December 5.....it took me all day long. I had wanted to post on Nowhere too, but I'll try to get to the fun in a few days!

Oh thank you my dear friend, for coming to my post. How I wonder where you were that day the photo was taken of me and my mother in 1965....South Central L.A.....I remember. It was Christmastime....oh dear, here come the tears....gotta stop this!

You are just the most wonderful friend. LOVE!

  30. Oliver is so cute and looks a little like my Piano, who is a black and whie tuxedo cat who only walks on three paws. I hope you'll keep feeling better: the flu can really take all your energy.

Oh OLIVER has LIFE in him!! He looks so real with thoughts of intention!! :-D
