Inspired by Honey Bee the miniature pony who lives with ~ Willow ~

Willow put up a post that touched my heart and made me smile... Thank you Willow for the inspiration.
Please take a moment to visit and meet the real Honey Bee here .... She has posted more photos of Honey Bee..

I just had to attempt to paint this sweet miniature pony,  named Honey Bee,  and her Rooster friends...  It was quite  a challenge for me..  I have painted horse heads in the past years, but have never attempted to paint the body... Now I know why..  It's their legs.. Very difficult, for me anyway...  I have changed the background as to put a little of myself into the painting..  I hope you enjoy my rendition.
Thank you so much for visiting...

Below.....  my rendition  8x10 acrylic on canvas panel

Wishing you all a beautiful week.
blessings,
Penny

  1. I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now one weird thing....your new post doesn't show up yet on my blog roll, but thanks to your message, I'M HERE.

Horse bodies are tough. I used to only draw the profile of the face which I find to be fascinating but easier. The legs? YES, DIFFICULT! But Penny, you captured Honey Bee and his friends to a wonderful likeness and I admire you for taking that challenge. Oh how anything worthwhile is so difficult before it becomes easy.....bravo...I just love your work my dearest friend. Anita

  2. Hi Penny Sweetie...
Oh what a wonderful share. I love, love this painting. You have captured the very heart of Honey Bee. So absolutely precious.

Love that little raccoon below as well. Your talents absolutely amaze me sweet friend. I wish I had one little piece of what you possess in that mind of yours. Your hands are so magical. You give God a smile every time you complete another project. I can just hear him saying, " Job well done beautiful Lady."

Thank you for the wonderful thoughts of my beautiful Handsome. My heart has been so heavy, and I just take one day at a time. He was such a big part of my life, and has seen me through so many hard times. I will miss him horribly.

Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry

I adore your added touches of the scenery .
Once again I am so honoured that you find the animals here, at our humble New England farm, an inspiration.
I would like to add yor painting , with both the original picture of our Honey Bee and the roos and a link and credit to you and your painting~ or do complete new post next week icluding both the original picture and painting with info about your site if you dont mind?
I must still figure how to achieve the "link back " .

First, I was looking at your sketches again, (I think they are wonderful) and your pony LEGS are great! I found the legs to be the most difficult part. It looks as if you do have that down.. I am looking forward to seeing more of your art!

Thank you so much for your visit and most kind words.. Too kind, but thank you so much.. It is always a pleasure when you visit.

  16. Honey Bee is so cute!!!!! Oh my! A little pony with a rooster on his back?!?!?! And your painting is such a treasure Penny!!!!!

I am attempting a felted Afghan Hound and wish you were here to advise me, things are getting quite hairy and the face keeps growing, yikes!
(I may have to change it to a "Felted BigFoot"
    or perhaps a bear....)

  17. Violet! Your miniature garden just took my breath away...What a talent you are, in so many mediums..
I cannot wait to see your needle felted Afghan, I am sure it will be outstanding.. Yes, they do tend to grow and you go along. You are so funny,"Felted Bigtoot"

Harold turned out MUCH larger than I had anticipated... By the time I had felted his core, then added his fluff later, he was quite large.. So, if I could give you any advise, it would be to keep that in mind and start small.
Also, if you "firmly" needle felt, ( it will feel hard) it keeps the size.. If you want a soft sculpture, just needle felt to the shape you want. Keeping in mind that if you want to add a second layer for fluff this will add of course.. Did that make any sense? I can't wait to see your sculpture.

Thank you for your kind words about my painting. It means alot to me coming from an accomplished artist such as you.

    Penny

  19. Hi Penny,
    I lové your honey bee!
I could see this hanging in a little girls room because she is a horse and pony lover. It's such a story book piece telling its sweet love for its little friend Chicken.
I love your legs on the ponies body, it's less then perfect scale makes this piece so charming.

See you soon, I am off to visit honey bees yard :)

  20. Hello Penny!
Today I got to pet some darling Alpaca and talk to the owners about them and their wool, it was so fun! They were actually at a small art festival, with the Alpaca in a pen next to the booth of the woman who makes felted hats and clothing from their yarn. I hand fed them carrots, and if I lived out in the country, I'd be thinking about getting myself some of these darling creatures!

Anyway, I thought of you and your sweet wool felted animals!!!

I must say, no one paints a horse like you do.
Yours just take my breath away.

Years ago, I use to paint horse heads, (not the body) so this was a first.
You are always such an inspiration.

  23. What a lovely friendship, the pony and the chickens/rooster :D! Your painting is gorgeous, Penny, I hopped over to Willow's blog and saw the trio there too. To paint animals is difficult and, as you say, horse legs are very difficult, I fully agree.
I want to thank you for your visits and your sweet comments on my blogposts, it is highly appreciated, so thank you, Penny.

  25. when i was a young girl, all i wanted in this world was a horse. i spent hours drawing horse heads, horse bodies and yet more horse heads. The kids at school always accused me of tracing, but I wasn't.I haven't drawn a horse in years, and if I tried, like you, I would feel more comfortable just drawing the head! But I think your's turned out just fine. Those chickens make themselves at home wherever a soft cushion can be found. I often find mine sleeping on the sheep's rear end.

  26. Hi Jeri,
I too always wanted a horse as a child..
I would love to see your drawings of a horse head. Maybe one day you will share, I hope.
Thank you for your kind words.
