In the Garden Roses and Lavender

Spanish Lavender  ( Anouk )  Planted last year
I read something very interesting about Bee's that I was not aware of.
This is what I read while researching when to harvest the lavender.

Watch the Bee's. If they just flit from bloom to bloom it is read to harvest.  If they stay awhile on each bloom it is not time yet..   I am sure some of you already know this,  but I had no idea.

This is the first year we have had more than just  a few bee's.  They have been absent for quite some time.
I also realized that while pulling weeds around the lavender they were content to stay put and not bother me.

Planting my French Lavender along the white stone path 3 in 3 to go

All in.   I hope they make it.

Ok. Here is one for you.  Does anyone know what type of wild flower this is?
It comes back every spring.. They leaves look like a clover, but have 6 petals.  As you can see it is growing in between all my other plants.  This is located in the back yard against the house.  I think it is beautiful so I am going to just leave it alone.

After all,  a weed is but an unloved flower.

A welcome visitor in the back yard

This is what my poor rose bushes looked like  on March 12th . Very sparse on the leaves and just a few blooms.

The bush itself has never looked like this,  even when not in bloom. I really thought I was going to lose my roses.  It looked terrible.

One month later.   On   4-7   after using  ~Grow Big ~.   This stuff really works!

Then I used ~Big Bloom

This is my English Rose  Winchester Cathedral ..( white one lower front. ).  In  a two foot space I counted over 100 BUDS,  not including the roses that are open.  This is one of my favorites.. The fragrance that floats through the air is breathtaking..

Photo taken last week

There are 4 Iceberg climbers growing up the posts, and my 5 English rose are down in  front of the climbers.
Soon they should all be blooming. Buds galore !.

Photo taken yesterday
Will you look at all the blooms!

Lily in her Beatrix Potter romper at Easter, holding her little bunny I made her. The dress that bunny is wearing was Brittany's baby dress.

I have been off  the computer for much too long.. My daughter had been in the hospital for surgery on her leg and had a long recovery. I have been traveling back and fourth to see her.  She is home now and is doing so much better.  An Easter blessing.  So good to be back.
Thank you for leaving such kind notes for me.
blessings,
Penny

I think the little yellow wild flower is wood sorrel, it's very pretty anyway.

    1. Yes Carolyn, I believe it is a wood sorrel. You and Dutchess have come up with the same flower, so I am sure this is it. Thank you!

  6. Penny, Lily is darling in her Easter romper. What a sweet smile. Your roses are beautiful! They are really blooming now. I think all the rain we had helped the gardens grow. The Pink color is so pretty. You know, that Spanish Lavender grew in front of my old housing neighborhood. It's very pretty, and a striking color. Can't believe that little bunny was in your back yard, and I really like those yellow flowers.

Have a good rest of the week, Penny. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's leg surgery. Now it's time for her to heal. Sometimes this takes longer than we'd like. Sending comforting thoughts to you.

    love, ~Sheri

  7. I just want to give Lily a kiss on her chubby little cheeks! Hey Penny, your Lavender looks healthy and happy, good job! Rose covered cottage is what you have right now, I hope the roses are scented to make things even better. I don't recognize the yellow bloomed plant but it is quite beautiful, even the leaves are delicate and pretty. Let me know if you identify it.

    1. ahhhh, I know.. Those little cheeks!
Thanks Jeri, I took your suggestion last year and cut the blooms back before they grew up. This year they look pretty good.
Oh yes, my roses are all scented, would not buy a rose that did not have a scent. It is just heavenly! I have been dead heading the spent roses everyday and drying for sachets.
The yellow flower.. Dutchess and Carolyn agree that it is a wood sorrel.

  8. Total joy here, Penny. First of all, I am so relieved that your daughter is home now, recovering. Then there is the little Miss, decked out in the CUTEST outfit, holding her own little bunny, wearing her mummie's dress!!!!! Then there's the cottage. Penny, your home is dressed in perfect beauty. OK....now, that wild flower of yours, I don't recognize it, but it's ABUNDANT! And I love your quote that weeds are unloved flowers. SO TRUE. We have the most gorgeous blue blooms out right now for which I do not know the name, but they are simply a weed. They are popping up in many gardens!

Your roses. SWOON! Wow, that feed is really working and along with all the rain you all got, this is what they needed. It must be one of those fabulous simple pleasures to simply open your door and have this perfume dance into your cottage. Then there's your lavender! IT LOVES THE SUN! It will make it. And I see you have a little visitor, just like us! We have one rabbit that we call Sam Hill, since he seems to live and love the hillside garden. But we also see he has a pal, "Samantha Hill".....she was sitting out in the rain yesterday, facing our kitchen. She would not move. She simply sat there, guarding our house! teehehehee

Oh spring, you bring us all such pleasure!

Oh I wish you were here. The roses are just bursting!

I love that quote also, I wish I could remember who wrote it. I read it somewhere years ago.
Oh Anita, there are so many rabbit's running about in the yard this year.
Sam Hill and Samantha Hill, how funny!

  12. Dear Penny,
I am sorry your daughter needed surgery and glad to hear she is recovering. Lily is a beautiful baby, Gerber baby for sure, so precious and looks like she loves her bunny you made her. I had to scroll your photos a few times and all I can say is Holy Moly your roses! Did you send your photos to the plant food manufacturer? Wow what a testimonial. I had no idea about the bees signaling the lavender harvest. Spanish lavender is what grows in my zone but in Cali your French will probably grow into a profusion of purple. Be well and sending love to you.

  13. Dear Penny your roses are beautiful. You knew the perfect cure to revive them. What an interesting note on the bees. This one I will tuck away when I am doing my harvesting. As for Lily she is so adorable. I am sure she is the Apple of your eye. So glad your daughter is healing. Take care friend and have a lovely day. Hugs!:
