The Princess and the Pea

Hello dear friends

Picking up my clay once again.   I have been looking forward to creating this set for some time.
It has been so long since I have sculpted with polymer clay I was not sure if I could achieve the results I saw in my minds eye.  I have to say I am pleased with the results..

She stands 5 inches tall,  her nightgown is muslin, hand sewn.  I used heat set paints for her details and hand set wool for her hair.

Her bed is balsa wood, designed, cut and assembled by me..
Hand painted in moss green white and a touch of gold. Embellished with plaster cloth and a silver crown atop.  Her puffy quilts were hand sewn and filled with poly fill.  I love the tiny calico prints..   I also made her tiny ladder.
I hope you enjoyed viewing her..  She is available on ebay.
Thank you so much for taking time to visit.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend.. I will be huddled up, as we have a big storm coming our way. Weather report is 4 inches in two days.  For California, we have had quite a bit of rain lately.  This is a good thing.   I will say my roses are trying to recover..  Oh happy day!

Bed is 7 1/2" tall  and 7" in length

Princess is 5" tall

I was so focused on her when sculpting that I forgot to take WIP photos, but did take a few of the bed in progress.

Thank you dear Ilona for the reminder.  I can't believe I forgot the PEA! LOL
There it is!

  1. This children's story is a favorite, Penny. What a cute little princess you created, and those beds, how cute. Love the tiny quilts with the calico prints. And that ladder heeheehee.

Yes, lots of rain coming our way. I hope your roses are doing ok. I miss my garden, but I still see the roses at the rose garden near my house.

  2. One of my also, Sheri. I really enjoy working with balsa wood.. Soft enough to cut with and knife.

  3. OH MY..........you did it again.
For a while, I've had this story in my mind too, and wondering how I'd take a photo. I have a little bed, but need to make some mattresses and I know I can find a princess....

PENNY!!!!!!!!!! You are an architect of the small world! YOU KNOW how I feel about that CROWN! WOWOWOWOOOWOWOWOOW and the little princess, she reminds me of a certain, special child who has the most beautiful eyes and lips I've ever seen...

BRAVO. Gosh, you put so much detail into the small....your eyes are much better than mine to see the eye in the needle in order to sew this! LOVE this, and the fact that you are recreating some of the most beloved stories. Oh my friend, how I adore you.

    1. Yes, little Lily was my inspiration for the Princess.. That may be the reason it went so smooth while sculpting.
      MERCI, dear friend!

  5. Penny, it's wonderful. I have to say, I don't know how you got her exquisite face so perfect. That's a tough medium. And the bed with all its quilts makes me smile.

Do try to stay dry. I hope your roses survive. I know water is good for them, I know there has been a drought in your state but I think you guys are ready for a break!

    1. Jeanie, I had to use my magnifier when sculpting the face. My old eyes do not see as well as I would like, even with my glasses.

      Yes, much needed rain indeed..

I hope you're okay because of the storm? Take care, dear friend.
