A Rose is a Rose

Ingenious Mr. Fairchild... One of my favorite English roses.

I love to sit on the porch with my coffee in the morning and just breath in, sit quietly and watch for birds.

Every day there are new buds... Soon they will be in full bloom

I like to use tulle to guide my climbers up the posts... It works very well... can you see it at the top left?

Hummingbird, hummingbird
so tiny and sweet
thank you for always
being there to greet.

Where is your friend so bright with color
I know you will look at no other

So sit little one and wait for him
Fluff those feathers and sing a song
I am sure he will be right along.

p.w.

Just look at this little hummingbird.  Not very often I see one just resting.

Winchester Cathedral
My favorite English rose... It has a
Raspberry and almond scent...

The pink is Mother of Pearl..  A pretty Tea Rose, not a very heavy scent. White is  Iceberg one of my climbers.  There are four climbers running along the porch.  The english roses are below down in front.

Would you like to take a peek at the flowers in the back yard?
Beautiful Iris sets along the house

This is an old coral Tea Rose.. It stand about 6 feet tall.  Beautiful when it is in full bloom.  Maybe about a month or so.

Oh the scent of a lilac!  I am so excited.. I have been waiting for 3 years for my bushes to bloom.
Last year they gave me a little preview with one lone lilac.. This year I had enough to cut some for the house.

On the other side of the yard I have a dwarf orange tree..
It is in bloom right now and it smells soooo good.

Thank you for wandering through the roses with me... I hope you enjoyed my humble garden.  Wishing you all a beautiful day
blessings,
Penny

  1. It is so hard to believe that there is perfume, color and blooming life at this very moment, in our same COUNTRY! I hear the tinny sound of ice falling on my window, with a blanket of snow to complete the Minnesota landscape in April.

Oh Penny, how I would LOVE and dream of sitting on my porch, with my cuppa, just listening to the birds. Your garden is a haven and that little hummingbird is so special.

Thank you for writing a poem. You are celebrating Poetry Month with me, Irina, and others who want to promote poetry of the people. Thank you for taking notice of your world and putting your observations into WORDS - the tools of the writer.

I wish I could smell that almond and raspberry scented rose! WOW! And the tulle my dear, what a brilliant idea to help along the climbers!

LOVE YOU my dear friend. Your imagination and courage build up my faith in those of us who just want to contribute to making this world a better place. LOVE! Anita

  9. Hi Penny! Oh, your porch with the roses is amazing! It must be a lot of work to reach this beauty and now you´ve come to the season to enjoy it :D Here in Bavaria we had finally sunshine today, actually the first real day of "springweather" this year. And I am also looking forward to see the lilacs in full bloom here, as it is such a wonderful scent in the air in the mornings then. I hope you are having a lot of good weather to be able to enjoy your garden!
    Hugs, Sandra

It was a great pleasure to sit in your garden for looking to these gorgeous roses, what a joy! Like at Sandra's place is here (in The Netherlands) the first sunny, warm spring day, we all enjoyed it so much after the hard winter full of snow and ice cold weather.
I hope you'll keep good weather to see your garden flowering in full bloom soon!

  14. Oh wouldn't that be nice to have almond and raspberry scent in a soap or oil, to spritz with water on the sheets/pillows?

I WANT roses this year. I must dig up a photo of the William Baffin climbing rose that does well out here and send it to you. It is spectacular. Back in a jiff via email!

  23. Hello beautiful rose!

This is the world I love. A quiet garden, a wonderful friend up the street (how I wish you and I were near) and a quiet community of people who care about each other.

Life is beautiful, but tragic; and that will never change. But I know it in my being, I just KNOW that there is paradise waiting on the other side of light and goodness wins. Thank you my dear one for coming to comment. Anita

  24. I can almost smell the roses and the lilac. You are truly the queen of roses! Tulle up the posts? What a marvelous idea. I have two that need to climb the porch posts, do you just wrap it around the post? Our roses are just now budding and leafing out, yours are a bit heavenly.

    1. Yes Jeri, I just wrap it around the post and branch, tie a bow and that's it.. It has a bit of a give so as not to hurt the stems and it fades away. Works pretty well!

  25. Your porch looks like an ideal place to sit and listen to bird song and smell your roses. I like Mr. Fairchild, it seems like a rose from a Jane Austen book somehow.

  39. Thank you for the garden tour. I love how spring is in bloom. It fills my heart with hope.

I miss you, know that you are thought of and I care so much. I have no idea why I'm not on everyones blog roll anymore, but I am here. For awhile, as you know I was working three jobs but now down to two and it's made a sweet difference in my life, to STOP and smell Penny's roses.
Bless you as beauty surrounds you. Hummingbirds are dear to my heart, my mom and I fed them at the Fairyland for over 40 years. I have some that come to my yard but only a few select ones. They must be able to fly free and often land on the gnomes caps.

I am thrilled that you and BEBE will be coming to France with me! Let's see....I wonder what that little mouse has up her little sleeve...a romp in Provence? An excursion on the Riviera? WOOO HOOOO! In her little French bikini bottoms while she goes TOPLESS like les dames in Nice do? tthehehehehe....whatever you have in mind, it will be a blast. LOVE! Anita

  43. How HOW did you get your orange tree to blossom? I have two I've grown from seed (the babysitting method) and they produce masses of leaves, but never a single scented blossom! I've had them about six years now but no sweetly scented flowers /sadface, I bet yours smell fab.

Oh, those roses, such lovely roses you have. Here in Ar they bloom for a while but the nasty humidity strikes them all down with mildew. it's very sad. I miss roses.

Your lilacs are lovely. Do the leaves smell nice too? I know some have scented leaves.
